Okay I have an oldish tv show in WMC codec.
it comes out with blockiness on windows 7. i did a bit of searching and it seems to not support ffdshow or something?
are there any fixes?

transcode it to another format - wmv is a very poor format. It's also not likely to get much attention from either XBMC or ffmpeg any time soon

WMV is a proprietory Microsoft format and MS have never released it's spec. The open source community has done sterling work in reverse engineering it, but even so WMV playback is not guaranteed to work.
