using a macbook pro as my xbmc
#1
I have a macbook pro that I use in conjunction with a mini display port to HDMI cable to my HDTV. XBMC shows up fine on my tv but the main question here is how do I get the sound to my receiver? I have a lot of mkv HD files with dts 5.1 and all that I'd like to have the signal pass through to my receiver. Is there some way I can make this work? I heard that my macbook pro has a digital out, but it looks like a standard 3.5mm jack to me and not the TOSlink kind. Is there a 3.5mm to Optical out cable that I can use and will this work?

i think you are looking for that kind of adapter. A lot of optical cables come with that adapter but you can buy them separately.

What version of MacBook Pro? Only the newest ones support audio over display port.

And yes, the 3.5mm is both analog and digital, you need a special TOSlink cable that inserts into there, it's cheap and available all over eBay.
