Celeron J1900 vs Haswell Celeron.
FIXED IT! 'D

Hello all. This is my first post and I'm completely new to this topic. I've been doing a lot of reading, especially on this thread, and still much of it goes right over my head (the numbers, the acronyms, the chips). Lol. So please bear with me. And thank you in advance for all the help everyone. ']

Thanks poofyhairguy. Your posts have explained a lot. It really does seem like the Asus Chromebox is the best option. Although I would like to play around with the RPi 2 someday when I have time to sit and learn. Plus, correct me if I'm wrong, it seems like you argue that it's a next best option after the A CB.

I need a unit for watching stuff directly from the web, but maybe also from an external hard drive if need be. My parents are also getting it cause they want to watch shows from India and Pakistan, but some you have to watch live while others can be seen after the date (according to my uncle who got an Android Box), so I may also need to see live TV, both local and Int'l. I also think it would be cool to record shows, I think that's what PVR is about, but I'm totally lost on that subject. I also plan on using just OpenElec as you advised.

So my question is that I'm trying to make sure I'm purchasing the correct model, and see if anyone has any direction on where to get a good deal on one. I'm really not sure about the differences for the the 'Celeron, i3 and i7'. I honestly don't think I need the i3 or i7, plus the lack of funds, but I wanted to understand your point about Anime if you could explain further. I get that they have more power to process 4K in the future, but what does DragonBall and others have to do with that?

Anyways, here are a couple links to the best deals I could find but I wanted to know if anyone had any others, and if these were the correct model that y'all are discussing.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IT1WJZQ $159
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...83-220-572 $150

Do you have an opinion on Newegg vs Amazon.

Also, I was thinking of getting a keyboard and mouse, or keyboard with touchpad combo, and I wanted to get opinions and options. That seems to be the best option as I've researched so far. I definitely don't want to waste time with crap remotes etc, which some ppl have said about the Asus keyboard and mouse option that can be added as a bundle at the above links. Newegg even has some $30 mail rebate card from Asus, but I don't know where you can use it, or if it's even worth it. Thoughts?
One youtube review showed that the Logitech K400 was their best option over some remotes, but there are new models out now apparently.

Note: My parents are trying to learn to be tech capable, but that's really not my main concern. I think they'll get the hang of a keyboard over a remote after a while, so I really want a good option.

Again, thanks a bunch for all the advice. This is really great. ']

And can someone tell me how to quote properly lol. I don't think I'm doing it right.

ADDITION:

I found some other sources with great prices, but I'm hesitant because they are not major retailers. ThoughtsConfused

$130 + Free Shipping - this one says new sealed in original packaging BUT it
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ASUS-CHROMEBOX-M...3641.l6368

$125 + Free - this one is new but OPEN BOX
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ASUS-Chromebox-M...3aa1fb8973

$130 + 6 - I'm less sure about this because they just take a picture of the tape but don't actually say sealed from what I can see. BUT they do have a make an offer spot.

Also, I wanted to ask what else I would need? For example, I am using a TV that has an HDMI port, but I don't think the ACB comes with one, so what brand or type would you recommend? And what sort of wifi router or dongle should I use. In fact, my wifi sucks (I assume because I need a new router) so any guidance or recommendations on that front would also help greatly. Again thanks for all the help.
No you're not quoting properly. Press the quote button, its hard to go wrong after that.

Lol thanks. I did do that last time, but I don't know what happened.
I hope this isn't hijacking...but honestly I've been looking for this answer for ages...If I buy an Intel NUC with a Haswell processor, it is my understanding that, in theory it should be able to output in 24p. I have NO interest in 4K, and that seems to be the most widely debated topic. I really just want a nice simple, reliable device to run KODI/XBMC, and output HD Audio, along with 1080p/24p video.

I have seen some people state that it needs ALSO to include an Iris HD integrated video card - is this true? If not, please please PLEASE tell me the bare minimum HDx000 series video card I need, because I've seen cheap Haswells chipsets with the HD5000 - didn't pull the trigger because I need this question answered.

Thank you very much, in advance.
Chromebox does all you want.

It's my first post in this forum so, first of all sorry if I'm posting this question in the wrong area.

Now, Right now I don't have that much money to spend so I was thinking about buying a Mk808b Plus to have as my first android tv system. Can someone tell me wether I'm doing a smart purchase or if I would be better off saving the money for a better thing?

Welcome to the club.

In my opinion, its better to come to the party with what you can easily afford, and may be stretch your budget by 10-15% if you can.

Whats your current budget and requirements ?
Primary Sony 85" X8500F LED, Yamaha RX-V685, Odroid N2 4GB running CoreElec 19.4 RC1 (Kodi Matrix), SVS 5.1 Sound
Secondary Panasonic 50" ST50 Plasma, Pioneer AV916, Asus Chromebox running LibreElec (Kodi Leia)

It's not bad, actually. However, if you don't need USB or h.265, then a Fire TV stock will be a better value since it has an included remote and better wifi.

Thank you for answering and for the warm welcome.
A 10 to 15% increase in my initial budget of 50 isn't a problem. What wouldyou recommend for that price range?
In terms of requirements i don't have that many I just want to watch live TV through Kobi, surf the web and maybe play a few games.

P.s. someone mentioned i should go for the rkm v5 but it costs more than double of what the mk808b plus and I'm not sure if it's worth the difference
Have you ruled out an raspberry pi 2?

i3 5th gen vs i5 4th gen. i5 I know is a faster and single core, but does that translate for media. Wat about gpu wise?

I wouldn't recommend a Chromebox unless it support 24p.

It depends on what you want it for.

To play media off of a local wall-powered hard drive? I like mine for that.

Streaming media across your network? No the wifi is too weak, and the ethernet drivers are flaky.

If I was picking between the two I would go 4th gen i5. 4th gen is when Intel GPUs got good enough.Of course I would only buy an i5 if I had a non-Kodi reason to do so.
