Hi,
I'm regularly having trouble with XBMC suddenly taking up 100% of the CPU, it makes Ubuntu freeze as well... or as a friend of mine stated "I've got a zombie".
It usually happens after more than 60 minutes of playback. Suddenly I see some weird lightgreen artefacts on the screen, video freezes and then the sounds starts looping with a length of approximately 2 - 3 seconds. Unable to move mouse, cannot stop XBMC, not even killing it from a remote terminal (in the rare case I manage to log in remotely). Even sudo shutdown does nothing.
There are definitely some errors getting reported in the log file, but I am unsure as to whether they point to the actual reason for XBMC freezing up.
Looking forward towards your opinions and help!
Here's the details:
Linux Distribution: Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS, 2.6.32-28-generic-pae i686. Built on Dec 17 2010 (SVN:35648)
Architecture: i686
Install Method: Followed this guide http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title...-by-Step_Guide
SVN: XBMC 10.0 r35648 (Compiled 17 dec 2010)
Instructions to reproduce: **IF** the crash happens, it will happen seconds after pausing playback. The crash is so serious it makes ubuntu hang. Impossible to approach the machine from outside via SSL. Nor does Ctrl Alt F8 start a terminal. I really need to do a hard reset and I hate doing that. Worried about harddrives and data possibly getting corrupted. Usually the freeze happens after 60 minutes of playback and pausing unpausing several times.
