[Live / Linux] From zero to the max?

Thumbs Up
Ok ... after i got my "boot-time" adventure done, i have an other mission to solve. Huh

First .. im not a master or pro in these video playback things like 24p, avr's and so, but normaly i can handle my stuff.

My Setup reduced to the most importent infos:

htpc
C2D E8400
4GB Ram
GF 6500 GT

hdmi&digital coax->

AVR
Marantz SR-5004
-hdmi output set to "through"

hdmi ->

TV
Samsung LE32B530
-wich supports 1080 24p Real Movie

Actually i have a nicely mesed up live install, wich i will ditch this afternoon for a fresh installation. THEN my primary goal is (certainly) to get the perfect setup for hd/sd video playback.

Problems i actually have are:
Stuttering sound in every playback ( hd / sd / mp3 ) what seems to be spooky for me cause sometimes it works for hours and sometimes i cant listen to a 5minute song without freaking out cause of the stuttering.

24p Problems with dropped frames and sometimes little lags.
Most of the time there are no lags or something and my wife dosnt notice any different at all. But i know there are some problems and i can notice little lags and slowdowns very well Big Grin

I gonne start the Mission with a fresh 10.1 Live Install ( without any updates ) this afternoon, and asking YOU for help for the next steps.
Wich driver to use, wich video-settings in xbmc, what to add or modyfie in the xorg.conf?!

Im sure I can complete this mission with ur help so i can rest in peace in front of my htpc Big Grin

Fresh System (10.1) up and running!

I only added my media harddrive and have done the soundsetup by setting it to 5.1 and paththrough.
Nothing more!

And there are still the two mainproblems Sad 24p frame drops and sometimes stuttering sound with any audio playback.

So first, to start things ... what information is needed to solve these problems?

aplay -l

Code:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC887 Analog [ALC887 Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: ALC887 Digital [ALC887 Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

aplay -L

Code:
xbmc@XBMCLive:~$ aplay -L
null
Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture)
default:CARD=Intel
    HDA Intel, ALC887 Analog
    Default Audio Device
front:CARD=Intel,DEV=0
    HDA Intel, ALC887 Analog
    Front speakers
surround40:CARD=Intel,DEV=0

surround50:CARD=Intel,DEV=0

Hmm ... hello?

Any idea?

Edit:

Ok, now i have updated my system to:

Alsa: 1.0.23
Kernel: 2.6.32-30-generic

And have dann a "apt-get update/upgrade"
Had some stuttering sound but it feels like it was less then before.

I still have no idea where to start solving this problem Sad

Sound

Im not 100% sure if my sound problem is solved with updating alsa to 1.0.23, bcause i had some days without stutter before. At the moment there is no stutter. I will keep a ear on this ;-)

Video

Nvida-Driver: 270,29

As i explained before, i am not a master in things like videoplayback and stuff, so i dont know, if the following things are a really good solution.

System/Video/Playback

Render method: Advanced Shaders ( GLSL )
Allow hardware acceleration (VDPU): [X]
Adjust display refresh rate to match video: [X]
Sync playback to display: [X]
A/V sync method: Video clock ( resample audio )

This gave me a 24p playback without dropped frames. FPS are 23,95 / 23,98
