Screen tear due to metacity / Help disabling metacity
#1
Hi,

Problem

Using gnome on Ubuntu 10.10 with xbmc was perfect until I decided to install cairo-dock which prompted me to turn on compositing, I thought .... fine. Big mistake !

Now with metacity running I see tearing on playback, switching to fluxbox kills metacity and playback is perfect again.

Problem is how do I switch off metacity ... I see it is respawned and is even launched with gdm...

I've tried everything Sad

metacity --replace
gconftool-2 --type=string --set /desktop/gnome/applications/window_manager/default /usr/bin/gnome-wm
gconftool-2 --type=string --set /desktop/gnome/applications/window_manager/current /usr/bin/gnome-wm
service gdm stop && service gdm start
etc etc and it's still there .... pkill -9 metacity doesn't help as it simply gets spawned again.

All I want is the default gnome wm without any decorators. Sad

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Not to worry, I'll just get along with fluxbox and gnome applets. The bluetooth stack works as expected under fluxbox and this was my main concern.

However if anyway can suggest how to get gnome back to defaults I'd be very interested.

Cheers
