M1 = 800MHz and 512Mb RAM
M2 = 10000MHz and 1Gb RAM

The team state that the change in hardware from M1 to M3 should be seamless - meaning end users will not be able to detect a difference in performance - the only real difference is needing to use a different build for each platform.

well it may be true and apply to xbmc, but that extra horsepower and more ram will help with other apps on android wouldn't it?

Definitely.. As for not being able to detect extra performance between the two builds, I do enjoy a challenge Smile

The Pivos M1's are running at 900MHz, M3's at 1GHz. You will be hard pressed to notice the difference in clock. Under Linux, the extra RAM does not make that much difference. Under Android, it depends on what other app you run and leave resident.

Is there a thread on installing Linux on this never used Linux before... Or will openelc work on this? Which would be better?

www.pivosforums.com has guides and help from SeƱor Davilla and others.

RE: Pivos Xios DS - okey - 2012-12-20

cant believe pivos have locked the firmware to there unit's, but there again seems to be a lot of issues with the new M3 box,

RE: Pivos Xios DS - rhino - 2012-12-20

How can i tell if i'm bying a M3 unit. On Newegg they listed the unit has only 512 MB RAM. is that M1? I really want to buy Pivos XIOS just to support XBMC Smile

There are no more M1's in the sales channel.

RE: Pivos Xios DS - rhino - 2012-12-20

So the M3 unit has 1GB RAM, confirm? I'm just a click to order it from newegg, even though their website said it only has 5112MB RAM

Correct and right.

I feel kind of gipped, i just bought a DS less than a month ago and it was an M1.

Isn't that par for the course for technology products? Imagine if you were an iPad 3 owner. Wink

Don't be. The diff in cpu is only 100 mhz and with using the linux based firmware you don't really need the extra memory. The software for the M1 however is of course ahead of the M3.

You are in a better position!

RE: Pivos Xios DS - dhead - 2012-12-25

I'm not sure if this is the proper place to ask this.

Anyone have any idea if the ts inputs of the Amlogic SoC are available on Linux for the Pivos Xios DS ? and if i2c driver is included ?
If not, then I'm guessing that it doesn't worth looking for devices with dvb chips.

p.s.
I do not recommend buying any Amlogic device that it isn't a Pivos Xios DS.
The Pivos support to Linux and XBMC is something unique and special, there isn't any other company that standing behind their devices and giving support back to community.
I had my share of trying to contact more than few dozen Chinese companies.

RE: Pivos Xios DS - j1nx - 2012-12-25

Davilla wrote a power off driver that hooks up on a i2c. Check thekernel sources. I think everything is there, although I have not looked at those parts yet.
