Xiph codecs + hw transcode? - ullbeking - 2019-01-14 Hello! I guess my question can be divided into two... I recently started to design an HTPC, all seemed to be going OK, and then I realized... I plan on using Xiph.org codecs and containers as my primary multimedia storage formats in my NAS and for archival in my NAS. I also don't think a NAS is the right place for transcoding, I think the HTPC should do this. So... this means I need a pretty strong HTPC, right? Because I can't really rely on hw support for the Xiph.org codecs, rather, it'll have to be all done in CPU. Is that right? Moreover, some people told me that Kodi isn't a good solution on the HTPC for transcoding, and that something like Jellyfin would be a better choice. What do you think? I'll be running on Linux, and using as much open source software as possible. THanks for any help!
