RE: [RELEASE] Advanced Launcher - Applications Launcher Addon for XBMC - m7cky - 2012-06-05

Been using Advanced Launcher for a while now, t'is awesome!
I'm a big fan of OnLive & launch it with AL but have always wanted to launch individual games but couldn't see how this would be possible, until today!
Just read this article
http://blog.onlive.com/2012/06/05/two-years-and-countin/
and am hoping that this will mean it will be possible after reading this;
"A simple URL can launch any game without a signup or login".
Hope I'm right, I'm going to give it a whirl tomorrow.

I tested it out last night and everything seemed to be working as I'd hoped. I'm actually really excited for all the possibilities this feature will add, from grouping different versions of the same game together (either hacks or different releases), launching games in different ways (with different control schemes, emulator settings or emulators entirely) and even the addition of extras like manuals, guides, etc. I really appreciate the work you've put in here.

The one further request I do have though would be the removal of "disc" after the custom menu entries. It's not a huge deal, as it doesn't prevent anything from working, but it does impact the presentation a bit. If you'd rather keep it as is, I absolutely understand. For most people, I expect this feature will primarily be used to differentiate between discs, not for launching other custom menu entries. The only exception I can think of might be grouping different versions of cartridge based games together (like rom hacks and/or translations).

Anyways thanks again for all of your hard work. This is awesome.
I can take a look to improve this for the next version. If no alternative title is indicated between {} we can still display "Disc #" information list. If an alternative title exist, just display this alternative title. That will be then the goal of the use to mention or not the "Disc" word into the alternative title.

RE: [RELEASE] Advanced Launcher - Applications Launcher Addon for XBMC - Angelscry - 2012-06-06

Version 1.8.7 : This new version of Advanced Launcher bring a really small display modification for multi-disc items. When alternative disc titles are provided into the filename Advanced Launcher do not longer display it like #### Disc but only display strings between {} brackets. For example, if your filenames are :

Code:
Gran Turismo 2 [SLUS-00748]{Arcade} cd1
Gran Turismo 2 [SLUS-00749]{Simulation} cd2

Multi-disc display list will look like :

ChangeLog :
  • Change multi-discs alternative title display template.

RE: [RELEASE] Advanced Launcher - Applications Launcher Addon for XBMC - Angelscry - 2012-06-06

New multi-disc support into Advanced launcher bring also a simple way to manage different versions of a same game.
For example if you have your roms named like this :

Code:
Secret of Mana (F).7z
Secret of Mana (G).7z
Secret of Mana (J).7z
Secret of Mana (U).7z

They will be displayed as different items into Advanced Launcher.
But if some of you prefer to have one single entry for different version of a same game, you just have to rename them like this :

Code:
Secret of Mana {French Version} cd1.7z
Secret of Mana {German Version} cd2.7z
Secret of Mana {Japanese Version} cd3.7z
Secret of Mana {US Version} cd4.7z

Then they will be displayed like this into Advanced Launcher :

Want to change the display order? No problem. Just change the cd number at the end of the file :

Code:
Secret of Mana {French Version} cd3.7z
Secret of Mana {German Version} cd1.7z
Secret of Mana {Japanese Version} cd4.7z
Secret of Mana {US Version} cd2.7z

And see the result :

Both can play roms. You will found information to setup Advanced Launcher with different applications and emulators here : http://www.gwenael.org/xbmc/index.php?title=Main_Page

Thnx, works great.

couple of other questions.

What is the best scraper? I've got nes,nes64 and snes roms. There are a lot of scrapers i can choose from.
And is there a quick wat to import your games and get the thumbs? I've about 2000 roms i think. But i took hours to import them.

RE: [RELEASE] Advanced Launcher - Applications Launcher Addon for XBMC - Angelscry - 2012-06-06

There is no best scraper. It dependent of the database, platform, and the rarity of the game. There is no explicit rule of faster website. I'm personally using :
  • info scraper : allgame
  • thumb scraper : mobygames
  • fanart scraper : gamefaq

I have Syphon Filter 2, are you putting the two disc games in a single folder? Also what theme are you using?

RE: [RELEASE] Advanced Launcher - Applications Launcher Addon for XBMC - Angelscry - 2012-06-07

Yes, the two disc of the game must be located into the same folder to be recognized as multi-disc. The skin from my last screenshots is Cirrus Extended 2.

Just wondering, having some difficulties scrapping mame rom info, not sure why... I've set the scrapper setting to mameworld for nfo, thumbs and fanart but yea, its not picking the info/pics up.
I haven't renamed the rom files etc either.

My NES etc scrap fine, just not sure why I can't get mame to scrap?

I don't have MameWork as an option, I only have Mameworld.... running 1.7.6b, that the latest version?
Edit: Seems like an old version hey... but I can't update it via XBMC? Can't select the "update" button, guess its a manual download repository?
Edit2: Never mind, just un-installed, downloaded the repository "repository.angelscry.xbmc-plugins.1.2.0", and its now 1.8.7, cheers

RE: [RELEASE] Advanced Launcher - Applications Launcher Addon for XBMC - Urhos - 2012-06-09

Hello Angelscry. I haven't posted here on a while. Hope you're doing well. Unfortunately my htpc crashed not long ago, but I had advanced launcher set up perfectly before the crash. Luckily I still have the contents of the "plugin.program.advanced.launcher" folder and the xbmc roaming folder from my previous configuration. Is it possible to restore my advanced launcher to its previous glory without setting it up again since I have the old files? I had a ton of roms configured on it. I tried to directly copy and paste the "plugin.program.advanced.launcher" folder into my new XBMC/addons/ directory, but that didn't work. Any suggestions? Thanks a ton as usual.
