Ubuntu 10.4 - choppy xbmc
#1
Hi Everyone,

I have installed ubuntu 10.4 x64 server and when I start xbmc in console via
/usr/bin/xinit /usr/bin/xbmc --standalone
it's very choppy, everything works very slow - menus as well as videos.

I decided to install entire desktop environment and when I run xbmc there it works like flawless (menus, 1080p mkv movies).
I'd like to keep my server minimal - could anyone direct me to the solution where it will work also perfectly from console?
The GPU is embedded X3100 from Intel.

just guessing: with full desktop you also install the intel restricted binary modules including some VA-API and (more important) OpenGL support. this is exactly what you don't get automatically when doing a minimal server install.

I'd suggest adding the x-swat ppa in your minimal install

and make sure you get the newest xorg server including the intel drivers
OpenElec Standalone --> Asus Chromebox 'Panther' --> Onkyo TX-NR709 --> Sony 55" X85C Android TV (also with Kodi!)
Asus Chromebox EZ Script
Kodi on Sony Bravia Android TVs

Also remove background image if you have one from the desktop.
If you can't fix it with a hammer you have an electrical problem.
