I have a first-generation Intel Mac Mini, into which I have installed a Broadcom Crystal HD card and appropriate kext. I have noticed that XBMC--most recent nightlies, as I have an ATV2 as well--struggles with the strangest things: Babylon 5 DVD rips (as .dvdmedia files), certain MKVs, etc. All of these play just fine in VLC.
I've monkeyed around with settings, as per advice from various threads here, but to no avail. That said, what I was wondering is if there would be any advantage to using Crystalbuntu--or regular Ubuntu--with XBMC over Mac OS? What have others experienced with either OS on an old Mac Mini?
