Help with HTPC
#1
Hey guys Andrews the name and I am looking at building my own HTPC. So I don't know a whole lot on this and tried to read up on some things but it is really confusing.
What do you guys think of this? I don't know if it is overkill for what I will be using it for but thats why I am here. I used eskro's build as a guide as i read his 'What group are you" thread and I will prob be a group 7.

[CPU] AMD A10-5700 Trinity 3.4GHz (4.0GHz Turbo)
[MOBO] GIGABYTE GA-970A-D3 Motherboard
[RAM] Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 4GB (2x2GB) 1600Mhz DDR3
[SSD] Corsair Force Series GS 128GB SSD
[CASE] Silverstone Milo ML03 Black HTPC Case
[HDD] Western Digital WD Green 2TB, WD20EARX
[WiFi] TP-Link TL-WDN4800 450Mbps Wireless N Dual Band PCI Express Adapter
[PSU] PICOPSU-160-XT high reliability 160watt (200watt peak)
[KEYBOARD] ?
[MOUSE] ?
[REMOTE] Logitech Harmony 650

I also need to get a psu I think.

Any ways to make it a bit cheaper would be great or changes you would make would be aprieciated but take it easy on me please.. Im new to this Confused
Andrew.

You can opt for this 65w AMD A10-5700 Trinity 3.4GHz (4.0GHz Turbo), and you'll have CPU/iGPU in a single unit.....it will end up cheaper too....

For PSU, this one "Antec EarthWatts Green 80+ EA-380D 380W" should be great for it....
>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

Thanks for that. I have edited the post on some changes what do you think? I am hoping is will be quiet. And is there a chance it would fit in a slimmer case?

Your not going to use any kind of DVD or bluray drive in your build?

I hate to put a very powerful APU in a very thin case, but you certain can. It can get very expensive and complicated too.....here is one example- Wesena HTPC-e5-v3-Black or you can go with this easier route- MC101 Barebone (A10-4600M) ....

You might want to change your motherboard to FM2 too, and this "GIGABYTE GA-F2A85XM-D3H FM2" should work....

Thank you very much I think I will go with the MC101 Barebone. Sorry for a dumb question but what benefits will I get from changing the motherboard? And If i was to change it would I be able to do It being my first time?
Thank you again for your help.

The motherboard in your 1st post is AM3 and ATX. The A10 is FM2 and your case is Micro-ATX.....

I think that you will be very happy with the very low power MC101 Barebone....

One last thing, Would this one do the job alson? Do i really need the A10 or is it just overkill?

A10 is a little overkill for HTPC. The low power A8 should be an excellent choice for HTPC, and it should be able to playback everything....
