Basically, this is just a fork of MySQL under a different license.
The database engines might diverge in the future but for now they are almost identical.
I believe it should work fine, but please let us know !

Works fine for me on Arch Linux x64. I replaced mysql by mariadb a few weeks ago and as far as I can remember it just worked and I didn't even have to reconfigure anything.

Worked perfectly as a drop in replacement with version 5.5
