I got a message that I need to update my Kodi software which is fine. I'm just wondering how do I update an existing installation without uninstalling the whole thing and starting from fresh?
I'm sorry if this has been asked before I tried searching and couldn't find anything.

Hello Arily,

It is not necessary to remove the existing Kodi to update. As with many other programs, updates are installed on top of the existing installation. This has the benefit of retaining all your existing settings. See here... http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Install_Kod...ading_Kodi

Simply download the new version of Kodi here... https://kodi.tv/download/849 You will want the Release of Installer (32BIT) and follow these instructions here... http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Install_Kod...#Installer

When you installed Kodi the first time, hopefully you used all the default settings offered to you during install. Do the same with the upgrade version.
