kodi on raspbian 385% cpu
#1
Raspberry PI 3
Kodi 17.3
Raspbian stretch (released 8/16/17)
graphic mem set to 256

I am running raspbian from a USB stick.

When I start kodi (from the desktop). It starts fine, however the cpu usage jumps to 385% and kodi just sits there, with 30 to 60 seconds for a mouse click to register.

Clearly others are running the exact same hardware/software and not having this problem.

What might I be doing incorrectly.

Thank you.

You are running the Debian generic version of Kodi which is not optimized for the Raspberry Pi. You will need to wait some days for the RPi optimized version to be available on Stretch.

Thank you that explains it.

I have the same problem, even though I installed kodi through apt-get, and the version installed is 17.1. As far as I understand, that is the latest version on Stretch, isn't it? https://packages.debian.org/stretch/kodi

What would be the short-term solution? Install an older version? If so, how?

What I did was download the JESSIE image and start from scratch. With that version of Raspbian, Kodi runs properly. Then when the stretch version is released, you can do a firmware upgrade to rpi
