I have the above equipment + 2x Sonos 1s for 5.1 audio. I also have a NVIDIA Shield. Both the Shield and TV use Android OS. I have Kodi installed on both. I like having the TV option available for backup, an extra playground, etc. As s far as I can tell, the System/Audio settings are the same on both devices in Kodi. But, I get 5.1 audio on the Shield. I only get 2.0 on the TV built-in. Any thing I might be missing? Thanks much in advance!

Your TV most likely supports only 2 physical output channels. If you are lucky, it understands AC3. That way you can set PCM speakers to 2.0 and enable dolby transcoding.
But: Depending on the Sony FW, luck may vary.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.
