Hello XBMCers,

Would like your advice.

I was considering an ASROCK ION3D then the VISION 3D until I decided to try and configure one of my own!

I came up with this below which I believe is better than the VISION 3D with bluray at £670 in UK. Mine is £521 :-)

Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i3-550 Dual Core (3.20GHz, 4MB Cache) + HD Graphics

Motherboard INTEL® DH57JG: H57 Express Chipset, 10-Channel HD Audio, 2x DDR3

Memory (RAM) 4GB SAMSUNG DDR3 DUAL-DDR3 1333MHz (2 X 2GB)

Graphics Card 1GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GT430 - DVI,HDMI,VGA - DirectX® 11

Memory - Hard Disk 500GB SERIAL ATA 3-Gb/s HARD DRIVE WITH 8MB CACHE (7,200rpm)

DVD/BLU-RAY Drive SONY BD-5730S 6x BLURAY WRITER

Memory Card Reader INTERNAL 52 IN 1 CARD READER (XD, MS, CF, SD, etc) + 1 x USB 2.0 PORT

Sound Card ONBOARD 10 CHANNEL (7.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)

Network Facilities WIRELESS-N (150Mbps) 3dBi HIGH GAIN USB ADAPTER

USB Options 8 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL (MIN 2 FRONT PORTS) AS STANDARD
case supplied.

I cannot build myself so I configured it @ pcspecialist.co.uk

I was really happy with it but was wondering if its over kill for my needs and what would you be better to recommend me?
Also if you think i'm getting a fair deal here and if its future proof for now?

Needs:
1080P smooth playback (optional 3D playback but dont care)
Bluray
XBMC working with Aeon MQ2 skin and under Windows 7
5.1 DTS capable sound min or HD Audio supported as optional.
1 x SPDIF to my Surround
1 x hdmi
at least 3 usb 2.0
1920x1080 resolution
cheaper than £521 !

If i bought the revo r3700 at £230 would it cover my needs? (v specifically running 1080p and bluray and xbmc with heavy duty skin AEON MQ2?) If it would then I would buy an external blu for £130 making price = £360.

Any advice or help you could give me would be great! I live in UK so UK websites links would be great if possible.

What about the case / psu? Are they included in the price?

The r3700 would struggle with advanced skins so a more powerful CPU is welcome here.

Probably a cheaper i3 530/540 would do just as well.

Card reader seems to cover all bases but a 52 in 1 will create a lot of drive letters in Windows 7.

If you don't own a 3D set yet, I would hold back a while until the standards settle. If you don't need 3D, you don't need the GT430 and the cheaper GT220 will do just fine at 1/2 the price.

Consider replacing the HDD with an 30G - 60G SSD for a dramatic change in system responsiveness.
XBMC Live: i3 530 / GT210 / 2GB / SSD + 2 x Zotac HD01 / 2GB / SSD
unRAID Pro: 6 x 1TB + 2 x 1.5TB + 2 x 2TB + 2 x 500G over GbE
HP Micro Server: SABnzbd+, Sickbeard, Couchpotato, uTorrent, Media Companion, MySQL, MKV Toolnix

i can change the cpu down to a pentium dualcore g6950 2.8ghz 3mb cache + hd graphics

would this still be sufficient/powerful enough still? a saving of £19...might as well keep the i3?

gpu wise i have 3 more choices:
1)a 1gb ati hd5450 which is £10 less than the gt430.
2)a 512mb nvidia geforce 210 with a saving of £20
3) intel graphics media accelerator HD + Clearvideo HD Technology with a saving of £44.

any of these 3 good to have?

case/psu included in price. the ssd make the price go up by £100+ so im a bit weary of choosing that to be changed!
