Thanks! I will give this a try later.

This works better and better for me Smile I now switched to a disc dedicated for livetv and since then, I did not had any freezes. Prior, with btrfs as livetv cache, I constantly had warnings about long write times in the backend causing then lags an freezes in Kodi.

One thing I'm missing: Are Radio Channels already supported? At least for me, they are not shown in Kodi although they are available in Mythtv.

XFS is the generally accepted norm for mythtv I think, although there should be nothing wrong these days with ext4.
If I have helped you or increased your knowledge, click the 'thumbs up' button to give thanks :) (People with less than 20 posts won't see the "thumbs up" button.)

A lot of people install the MythBuntu image which creates an ext4 partition by default.

I have always used ext4 and never had any problems. Never even knew xfs was an option on ubuntu

If I use fast forward "f" then it works ok but I really would like to be able to skip the regular way ( ">" "<" "[" "]" )without having to watch the video.

Maybe this is a 0.28 issue? It works fine in 0.27 for me.

Funnily enough, skipping live tv was NOT working well for me with the old cmyth plugin :p

I have finally fixed the problem. After I disabled "Enable demuxing MPEG-TS" in the Advanced config setting of the addon, the live tv time skipping works as advertised.

Interesting. Mine has MPEG-TS demux enabled, and skipping works as it should. Backend is 0.27 though, for whatever that is worth.

Janbar, success! Thank you!

The channel that was the most problematic passed an overnight test without freezing. This would never have worked before.

So from an n=1 standpoint the fix works!

definitely need to send in a donation now! :p

I still have an issue in starting the channel though. I had originally thought these were related, and would disappear together, but that apparently isn't the case.

When starting this same channel that had the regular freezing problem it can sometimes take several tries, with an unusually long wait with the spinning disk failing in a "channel not available" error.

Repeating the channel request 2 at most 3 times usually works, and then the channel plays (now without freezing!)

I've tried many different file systems with the MythTV backend over the years.

The only one I have had any issues with is the combination of the NFS network file system used to connect to a ZFS pool.

Apparently ZFS's "copy on write" design and NFS's "file system locking" don't like eachother very much. NFS -> ZFS works well for playback OR for recording but playing back from the same file you are recording (time delay, or live TV) results in horrid skipping in playback.

If you use ZFS storage this can be solved by switching to SMB for file sharing. it feels wrong to use Windows network file sharing to share files between a Linux box and a BSD box, but it works, and in the end, that is what matters.

And now I have succeeded in wandering terribly off topic. My apologies!

Watch out for btrfs if you make the jump to kernel 3.16 as there were a boat load of fixes added. I just had a test with a few thousand RAW photos go horribly wrong. Same test on same disk, XFS partition was flawless.

Hi there. Please excuse my ignorance - I'm looking for some (mental) help. I mistakenly installed updates and now my mythtvpvr addon no longer works. "Check the log file" it says. Please bear with me, I'm not very good at this stuff (it took me about half an hour to find the log file, so any help given would be great if you could write as if you're talking to an 8 year old with step by step instructions).

I guess I'm trying to find out how I get the API version to 1.9.6. I've tried following the guide here: http://kodi.wiki/view/PVR/Backend/MythTV...FromSource but with no luck - to be fair, I'm not sure which version on Kodi I'm running so tried the 3 different options; gotham, helix and doityourself but none of them worked.

According to Kodi system summary I'm running Ubuntu 14.10 (kernel: Linux 3.16.0.34-generic)

Don't know if this helps but when I try to enable the addon I get the following:

Anyone else find breakage when 1.12.14 begins to load the Channels/EPG data on startup of Windows-14.2 ? Here's debug log. The notification box shows an attempt to load the channel groups/channels but doesn't even show an attempt at the EPG data. TV menu item fails to appear just as if an addon were missing/misconfigured.
Just checked two different Win Kodi's and they behave normally. Tried yet another clean install on the fiddly machine and get the same problem so it is localized to this particular windows install.

On a side note, also saw possible regression with OpenElec RPi on both .13 and .14 where, after pressing stop while playing back a recording, the GUI drops to an empty screen with standard Kodi background, pauses for about 7 seconds and then drops back to the previous file list. Furthermore, when this happens with one of my occaisional corrupt recordings (mangled/nonexistent seektable, mangled byte-length), the same pause happens and then it will drop into the Storage directory (unused in any of my sources) and get stuck there meaning: no normal cursor or Back navigation commands will get out of Storage, only Left brings up the sidebar menu. Can use a global key such as Music or Photos to break out.

edit: Started perusing the commits and saw the size and read/requested cchanges which solved the Rpi issues. On Windows, the timers and recordings arrive but still no go on the channels which borks the PVR service.

Many thanks for your reply but I kind of need step by step instructions. I understand if you guys don't have the patience to guide me through it, but I tried running the command cmake -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release ../ and i got "<directory> does not appear to contain CMakeLists.txt. I guess I need to do something (perhaps obvious to you) before hand?

Thanks again.
