First HTPC build

Excellent! Thanks, these are all the details I don't know about.

I'll get looking for a bigger case than the Antek, to fit it all in. If I need a separate psu, what power should I be looking for? 150W?

Hmm, it all adds up doesn't it! I still need to add Windows 7 to this lot too!
I think I'll have to hold off on the SSD and the BD for now, and add those in later, once I've saved up!
Thanks for your help with this.

The E350M1 now supports DDR3 1333Mhz RAM.

If I were you I would get the largest case that will fit into the space you have available (within reason). Small cases mean more heat which means more air circulation needed which means more fan's and fan speed which means more noise. You are cramming a lot into a miniITX case which IMO will not make a good build.

What do you want the wireless card for? WLAN is a last resort, homeplugs or ethernet cable is much better.

.
i dunno,,, it doesnt say so on their website....
http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=E350M1

wireless works perfect for me so if he needs it, theres no problems there....

my own build is a microATX form factor and some would still find it noisy...
but i dont care because, i dont hear the fans at all when watching a movie or music....

Site is out of date then, v1.10 of the BIOS supported DDR3 1333 RAM, 1.20 is the latest version.

wireless works perfect for you but doing what? Not streaming or uploading files quickly I'm sure...I wondered why the OP wanted wireless.

I have an E350M1 in a Silverstone ML03 case and even with the fans running from 8 feet away it is silent, and I have a mechanical HDD.

he'll have local storage for now since he cant afford getting a NAS yet...

meaning, he needs WiFi for the internet.... like me...

case/psu: £31.45

Great, that looks a bit more affordable to me and something I can upgrade in future as I need to/can afford to.
I'll go with 1333 Ram if it is supported, I'll check the newest BIOS to find out.

Yes, the wifi is for internet for spotify, rather than streaming video across the home network. I'll be storing most things onboard, hence the extra HDD.

Next stop ordering and building...

if you go with 1333Mhz, get at least CASE LATENCY 7 (CL7) ....
Like so --> Kingston HyperX 2GB (1x2GB) 1333MHz DDR3 CL7 240-pin
so your final would look like this:

Image
mobo/cpu/igpu: £80.63
case/psu: £31.45
ram: £18.61
ssd: £50.98
hdd: £57.59
wifi: £9.67
optical: £45.92
TOTAL: £294,85

and i think its pretty darn good!!
specially price-wise!!!
and i'm jealous now Tongue
