Now that I have my Win7 htpc set up with Xbmc what do I do with my old Dell xp p4 pc.
I was thinking about turning it into a server to hold all my movies but how do I go about doing that.

I suggest looking at linux distributions. You will want to do your reasearch as it really depends what you want from your server. If its just for movie storage then maybe freenas is a good option however if you want it for automated downloads then its worth looking at debain/ubuntu

fill it with hard drives and share the drives or folders with your HTPC.

FreeNAS (as mentioned above) or unRAID are some good options.
