XBMC on Asus Netbook 1215N with NVIDIA ION2
#1
Hi Guys,

I recently bought this new netbook primarily for running XBMC v10.1 ( Win Veriosn) on it. My system came with pre-installed Win7 64bit. I installed XBMC and activated below setting in Video Playback.

Render Method: Auto Detect
Allow hardware accelaration (DXVA2) : YES
Adjust display refresh rate to match video : YES
Sync playback to display : YES

I tried playing 720p MKV files and video playback is not smooth, it is jerky.
I am trying to view the video using netbook's LED screen. I have not used HDMI interface yet.

I will appreciate somebody can help me and give me some tips for getting smooth playback with 720p and 1080p playback on this netbook.

Turn off the "Adjust display refresh rate to match video : YES" and "Sync playback to display : YES" options till you use it on a TV.

When you hit O during playback, how much CPU is it using?

Debug log please (remember to turn on debug logging).
Sync playback to display might not be working, otherwise you'd see some more info in the codec info screen.

This netbook has nvidia optimus graphics which switches between two gpus, one a low power Intel and the other is a nvidia ion. I'm not sure if this is possible on windows as I'm running Ubuntu on mine, but is it possible to force enable the ion gpu? Also on xbmc Linux its possible to see which gpu is being used by xbmc in the system info screen.

Hi Teeedubb,

I guess this netbook's NVIDIA OPTIMUS is not automatically switching to NVIDIA ION2 display adapter. According to XBMC log, it looks like it is using INTEL graphics adapter.

Thanks,

Sync playback to display seems to be turned off in that log, but turning it on won't help in this case since it seems to drop a lot of frames.

I fixed the problem by configuring in the NVIDIA GPU utility, to run XBMC with NVIDIA instead of default INTEL. Nod
