I'm trying to setup VDR under Debian (LMDE), but all tutorials here are for Ubuntu. It's easy to do 'apt-get vdr' but many needed plugins (vdr-plugin-vnsiserver for example) are not available from the default sources.

I know vnsiserver has a Github page, but id rather avoid having to compile everything from source and keep it updated, etc.

So what would be the easiest way to install VDR in Debian?

Don't bother asking me Debian related questions, I only use Archlinux. I tried this repo once on virtualbox.
This repo has been around for a long time the most complete out there. I use Archlinux PKGBUILDs based on this repo.

I think vnsiserver on this repo is old. Ask him to switch to the new git repo or download the source from this repo edit
replace vnsiserver with the one from git and make a proper deb file.

Okay, I finally succeeded compiling the latest vnsiserver from source. The build script was incompatible with newer Debian releases (only with Ubuntu Lucid and Debian Lenny), but with some help of the author it now finally works.

But now VDR runs fine, I installed the default XBMC using 'apt-get install xbmc', but it's missing the VDR addon in 'Settings'?

So it seems I need the special XBMC-PVR branch, but I had so much trouble just compiling a simple plugin, that I want to avoid also having to build XBMC-PVR from source.

Is there any way to use XBMC with PVR support using a prebuild .deb package?

That contains only PPA packages, useless for LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition).
However, I found the Debian package at: http://debian.oppserver.net/xbmcvdr
