Have you looked at unRAID?

However, its Slackware based.

Also, snapRAID is another option.

I'm running an home server using snapraid + mhddfs it's not like real RAID, speed-wise, but i think it has some good advantages.

I'm not paranoid about data loss. I have a 12Tb file server in the loft. rather than running raid, I make sure i have lists of what films are on what drives. if i ever loose a drive, with the speed of the connection i have coupled with the hugh retention times of the newsgroups, I'll just get what i want again.

well, with high bandwidth, it's another story... try it with a lousy adsl 640Kb (max dl speed 75Kb/s) :-D I assure you, you became paranoid very easily....
