TOTAL: $332

Motherboard Slots & Ports:
----------------------------

PCI Express 2.0 x16: 1
PCI Express x1: 1
PCI: 2
SATA-II Ports: 6 (note that 2 SATA-II Cables are included in the box)

Case Expansion Bays:
----------------------

External 5.25" Drive Bays: 12

Case Fans:
-----------

Front: 3 x 120mm (all 3 Front Fans/HDD caddies needs to be removed)
Rear: 2 x 120mm
Top: 1 x 200mm

Power Supply Connectors:
----------------------------

SATA: 5
MOLEX: 4

Ok, were ready!! let's roll!!

the first 4 HDD's will require a 4-in-3 Drive Cage ($25)
also needed, 2 SATA-II cables ($2,50) Volume Discounts
also needed to plug the Case Fans, a Molex To 3-Molex Power Connector Cables ($3,25)

the next 4 HDD's will also require a 4-in-3 Drive Cage ($25)
also needed, 4 SATA-II cables ($2,50 ea.) Volume Discounts
also needed, a Molex To 4-SATA Power Connector cables ($8)
also needed, a 2 Port PCI-Express x1 Sata-II Card ($15)

the next 4 HDD's will again require a 4-in-3 Drive Cage ($25)
also needed, a Molex To 4-SATA Power Connector cables ($8)
also needed, a 8 Port PCI-Express x4 Sata Card ($100)
also needed, a Internal Mini SAS 4 Plugs Forward Breakout Cables ($11,25)

the last 4 HDD's will again require a 4-in-3 Drive Cage ($25)
also needed, a Molex To 4-SATA Power Connector cables ($8)
also needed, a Internal Mini SAS 4 Plugs Forward Breakout Cables ($11,25)

So, to sum it up, the different levels look like this:

04 HDD's = ($332) + ($3,25 x 1) + ($25 x 1) + ($2.50 x 2) = $365,25
08 HDD's = ($332) + ($3,25 x 1) + ($25 x 2) + ($2.50 x 6) + ($8 x 1) + ($15 x 1) = $423,25
12 HDD's = ($332) + ($3,25 x 1) + ($25 x 3) + ($2.50 x 6) + ($8 x 2) + ($15 x 1) + ($11,25 x 1) + ($100 x 1) = $567,50
16 HDD's = ($332) + ($3,25 x 1) + ($25 x 4) + ($2.50 x 6) + ($8 x 3) + ($15 x 1) + ($11,25 x 2) + ($100 x 1) = $611,75

(So going from the 4 HDD's Level to the 16 HDD's Level requires an extra $246,50. HDD's not included)

Now, what's left to know?
----------------------------

* USB Fash Drive ($9) to run the unRAID software is not included

You could get the Fractal Design XL for $159 + $20 shipping, which has 11 HDD slots as standard meaning less cages:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6811352005

04 HDD's = $360.24
08 HDD's = $392.99
12 HDD's = $536.99
16 HDD's = $580.99

Unless I missed something. Huh

And thats a sexy case, not a gaudy gross gaming case thing with blue flashing lights!

That is true on the Fractal Design XL less money to spend on the end. Top case should be changed for this. But other than that.... great job on this build.

im not so super sure here Tongue

is it a nice case? yeah man!!! Awesome!!

But here, once you'll buy the additional 120mm/140mm Fans for it,
it'll end'up pricier then the ANTEC 1200 build,,,,

I wouldnt stack 10 HDD's in there without superior cooling,,,
You would have to buy at least the 2 optional Front Fans & Side Fan,,,
price goes up Tongue

Fan Slots:
----------------
Front: 2 x 140mm (1 included, 1 optional)
Front: 1 x 120mm (1 optional)
Top: 1 x 180mm (included)
Rear: 1 x 140mm (Included)
Side: 1 x 120 (optional) or 1 x 140mm (optional)

Either case will work! depends on your taste! the ANTEC 1200 will be cheaper at the end with the fans... there are so many more cases. I know your going for the cheapest build here that it's great! I think i seen the ANTEC 1200 in the unraid forums. If it was me I would change the blue lights to green....

You might have to buy them based on where your gonna keep the server.

It should still work out cheaper or the same for the Fractal case unless you spend more than $30 on fans.

I'm running stock fans in my Fractal XL with 9 drives at the moment and temps have tended to range from 23˚C to 29˚C for the last month. Most I've seen is 32˚C.

Sorry, I don't follow. I replaced the $160 antec with an $85 norco and saved having to buy two $25 4x3 cages. The rest of the hardware would be the same, no?

^^Except from what I can see the Norco 470 has 3 x 5.25" and 10 x 3.5" bays. Which means the max capacity of that case is 15 drives if you install a $90-100 5-in-3 cage or 14 drives if you use the CM 4-in-3 that eskro is using in his build with the Antec 1200. But don't get me wrong, that Norco 470 is a heck of a deal.
