Nightly build -ATV1
#1
Hi.

ATV1
Dharma 10.1
Latest Icefilms

I can download the latest nightly by ssh into ATV1 using this:

defaults write com.teamxbmc.xbmclauncher XBMCAdditionalDownloadPlistURLs -array-add http://mirrors.xbmc.org/nightlies/osx/update_urls.plist

I assume that it is this one: http://mirrors.xbmc.org/nightlies/osx/xb...r-i386.dmg

The nightly then appears in my downloads, I can load it up...looks fine so far. However, I can not get it to stream/download Icefilms. Just getting script errors all the time.

I can watch my library of films, but thats it.

Have I missed the boat somewhere here? What am I doing wrong?!

Many thanks.

As an aside, whilst I await an answer.......will the Broadcom Crystal Card work with Dharma 10.1 or do I need a nightly build?

Many thanks....in anticipation......

Thanks Ned.

I have my ATV hard wired so was wondering if the BCHD experience is much better?

Any ideas if it is worth it?

Cheers,

Heck yeah! I use an ATV1 with BCHD as my main HTPC right now. Plays EVERYTHING like butter.

Be sure to get the "BCM970015" BCHD chip. The older "...12" chip has a few issues. (Nothing major, but kinda annoying. Like coming out of play/pause can be juddery for a moment.)

Like one of these:

Hi!

I have a new BCM970015 chip and have installed it in my ATV1. I have the latest driver for it and use Dharma 10.1. It shows up on the system/video/playback and I can select it.

Question is.......I don't really notice much difference. (if any if I am honest) I play mainly DVD stuff form Icefilms.

Should I be experiencing a WOW factor with this BCM970015 or is it more subtle.

Any ideas please?

For DVD you do not need CHD. It's mainly for decoding HD and does most 1080p nicely

thanks bleze.

So the CHD is only noticeable on HD and above. Thing is I have no 1080 stuff to test it out!. I think the HD looks better but it is hard to notice! Maybe it's slicker.

I suppose it is really useful for XBMX feeding off external storage with loads of 1080 films on. I don't have this at present as I only really watch a film once.

For now, HD is good enough for me....unless Icefilms stream/ download 1080.....

Hard to notice?! In that case you need to see a doctor. Something is wrong with your eyes Wink Perhaps you have not seen real HD?

All CHD does for you is offload the decoding of video to a dedicated chip rather than have the CPU do the work. If the CPU is too slow you will see all from the range of dropped frames to unwatchable content.

I do not know Icefilms, but comparing my DVD's to my Blu-rays it's a HUGE difference and better in all these aspects;

- Resolution
- Colors
- Mosquito noise
- 24 FPS

If I didn't care about HD, I would probably still be using a Xbox 1.

Save your money if you're happy with what you have Smile

OK.

So I have downloaded a 1080p trailer, Fast and Furious, and the difference is like light and day. It is that good.

However, I don't actually have any Blueray/1080p full films yet...Sad

I have had a look on some of my HD downloads, and yes they are slicker but no way near as good as the 1080p, but better than nothing.

Will have to look at ways to get some 1080p movies. They are that good!
