XBMC on ATV2 crashes on start due to DB corruption issue
#1
Need some expert help. I've spent hours trying to fix... Thanks!

My atv2 crashes on start up back to the main atv2 menu. It seems to do this eventually, even after building exactly as per:

http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW...Apple_TV_2

I've noticed this being the cause 2 different times:

After using then powering off the XBMC into the main atv menu, then putting the atv2 into sleep mode, unplugging it then later plugging it back in at a later time, at which point XBMC always crashes

Other builds have the same issue eventually and i'm not sure why or when it has happened.

I tried all the disabling of updates as per:

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=96685

and checked as per:

"If you can ssh into your atv2, run "ping mesu.apple.com" and if the IP is 127.0.0.1 in the response then the /etc/hosts file is fine"

and everything comes back 127.0.0.1

The only thing that has broght it back seems to be this:

Does your xbmc.log have any SQL errors? Remove your databases and reboot: (via SSH) rm -f /private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/XBMC/userdata/Database/*db . This will reset your video database, but the devs are looking into a fix for the DB corruption issue.

as per http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=XBM...ecific_FAQ

So my questions are:

1) Will this be a temporary or permanent solution?
2) What else can I do to prevent another crash?
3) Is the issue cause by the copying of my complete user preference XBMC folder from a different build via my windows computer with cyberduck to the freshly jailbroken atv2 the issue? If so would applying:

rm -f /private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/XBMC/userdata/Database/*db

right after the transfer of the XBMC folder to a new build solve the crash issue for new builds?

Note: the xbmc folder came from one of my older atv2 builds: /private/var/mobile/library/preferences/xbmc that was jail broken using:

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=99315 (never used the nightly build at that point)

I've now got it working after reset of video database issue noted above. I've enabled logs now and will post here later if it does crash again.

Install Notes:

I'm using the most current itunes and seasonpass. My atv2 is 4.3 (2557) as per the atv2 about menu and the nightly build is Nov 13, 2011. Installed xbmc as per:

http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW...Apple_TV_2

then I simply uploaded my user preferences from my windows machine using cyberduck. Login was mobile and pass alpine so no script error issues.

Thanks for any help or concerns...
