This is a common question. Here's a few links to some.

They might help... It looks like when you have extended screens over two monitors of different screen pixel sizes this issue pops up. Simply exchanging primary displays would not cause this issue and there's a few nice scripts that auto magically open/close XBMC between displays (let me know if you need this).

Most solutions come down to Launch xbmc, and follow the menus... System>System>Video output. There tick "Use a fullscreen window rather than true fullscreen". But there is a performance hit with this method... but it does work.

I'm using the nightly version of pre-Eden (Dec compile) with an ATI 5770 GFX card Win7/64. ( TV 1920p monitor 1920x1200) This is going to be the frustrating part for you...The behaviour I have is exactly what you want.. And I'm not sure what the diffs are between our system set-ups.

I manually open up the extended screen. (Win-P) drag a windowed version of XBMC to the extended screen and hit the slash key to expand to full window mode. I then can write this message in my browser on the monitor screen screen while my friends watch the movie... I suspect the key is that in the CCC v11.9 (ATI graphics card software) primary display #1 is the TV while the monitor is #2 using identify all displays.

I do note that by hitting the slash key again, XBMC re-positions to the launch window and switches between displays.. Interesting behaviour.

I hope there is a solution in here for you.

ok, my curiosity got the better of me. i had to push backslash and see it come back downstairs. now i can't get it to stay up there again. before i grabbed it while it was in windowed mode, shrunk down, and dragged it to the other monitor, hit backslash and it stayed upstairs full screen. waaaah, i just want it to stay up there :-(. the behavior seems a little odd....

had to enlist the wife to use my remote to select yes in the "do you want to keep this resolution" window. when i sent it to the tv it asked this, but i was downstairs and didn't see the dialog. so it dutifully selected "no" on it's own, and went back to the computer monitor after 5 seconds or so.
