[AppleTV1] 'Error 2: share not available'
#1
I've sorted a problem I had with XBMC on my newly required ATV1 where 'Add source' wasn't showing. Now I get an error saying 'Error 2: share not available' when I try clicking on 'Windows network (SMB)'.

I followed this guide - http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=63123 - to make sure the folder I have ripped my MKV's to was being shared.

I've tried rebooting the PC, router and ATV, and tried installing the Network Magic software by Cisco on my PC, but still no joy.

When I connect an ethernet cable to my laptop and navigate to 'Windows network (SMB)' it'll let me go 1 step further and bring up another menu where it says 'Workgroup' but as soon as I click on that I get Error 2 again.

Is there anything else I could try?

Might want to ask in the Mac subforum, since this is the iOS forum for iPhone/iPad and ATV2. The ATV1 runs something of a MacOS.

Is there a way I can transfer MKV files to XBMC without using a shared file on my PC? Could I connect an external HDD to my AppleTV for example? I'm running out of patience with this now Sad

An ATV 1 should be able to watch files off an external HDD according to the FAQ:

USB HDDs should work just fine on the ATV1. You might need to install something to enable it (can't remember). http://wiki.awkwardtv.org has some stuff about it, but they all seem outdated. I don't remember doing that stuff to get it working on my ATV1. If it doesn't just work when you plug the USB HDD in, post here again and I'll see what I can find.

Edit: by Memphiz - i'm pretty sure you ment ATV1 here - changed Big Grin

Ok, I think I'm getting somewhere now ...

I restored my ATV back to factory settings, re made my patchstick but this time enabling SSH server, AND I've managed to connect via FileZilla and Cyberduck Big Grin

So I click on the following: frontrow > Applications > XBMC.app > Contents

I then have 3 option: Frameworks, MacOS, Resources

Where do I upload my MKV's to?

Before clicking on the Applications option, there are files called Music, Movies etc underneath, but I'm guessing those are the ones on Apple's OS?

Don't store things in XBMC.app

Put them wherever you want. You can even make new folders.
