i'd like the ability to set artist images for the database based views, as i can with folder.jpgs. since adding an additional interface is a good deal of work, i suggest that a context menu item called 'set artist image' could be added to songs, and when chosen it'll set the song artwork as the artist artwork.

i'm in the process of adding this. in library view, if you have an artist filter defined, and are at either the album or song listing, you can use a context menu item to assign the highlighted album or song thumb to the filtered artist.

i have a folder structure like: music ==> artist ==> album (which is quit common i presume)
album pictures are in the album folders, artist pictures are in the artist folder.
is there a way to associate the artist picture with the artist in the db given this folder structure (the picture is not selectable with the mechanism described above).

no. all you can do is associate an album cover to an artist when in the library view. that's all. nothing more, nothing less.

so there is basically no way to get artist pictures in the library views given the music ==> artist ==> album structure, or am i missing something obvious?

no. to repeat, all you can do is associate an already cached album cover to an artist. you must be in library view, and you must have an artist filter defined.
there currently is no way, nor do i have any plans to add a way, to associate an arbitrary image to an artist.

i'll list a feature request for it cause i realy would like it (and i think there will be more people using the library views that would like it).
by the way: same holds for genres.
