Atv2 choppy playback
#1
Hi,
I have my movies on a synology nas and it plays perfectly with dlna to my samsung tv, but when using the much nicer looking xbmc on the appletv2, the playback is not smooth. I mapped the folders using smb, when I first tried upnp, the scaper would not work. Any hints on how to make this go away?
Its all files, avi, mkv, sh, hd. A clearly visible lag. Xbmc is latest eden build (updated yesterday)
Any help is welcomed.
Thanks
Jakob

There are posts about getting SMB working better with no buffering, do a search. Steer clear of UPNP as the connection is dynamic and this causes problems.

If u can, use NFS or FTP - much faster protocols, therefore less chance of buffering. I remember reading a post on here somewhere (with graphs and everything!) co mparing the protocol transfer speeds...

Thank you! Is it possible to change connection type and keep the library, or do i have to scrape it all again?

Kind regards J

I've noticed that HTTP is by far the fastest protocol to use on the ATV2. No buffering, even on 1080p. All video starts within 1-2 seconds.

Thanks for your reply! Exactly which connection method do you mean, there are several with http in the name?

I tried ftp as another kind person suggested, but that has no effect...

thanks again

Im not currently using English localization, but I believe it should be something like "Web server directory (HTTP)". NOT WebDAV by the way :p Thats something else.

Just fire up Apache or some other web browser to serve your files.

You may find your synology nas has a built in http or ftp service...
