Extreme FPSdrop during playback (video)
#1
XBMC have worked without problems for a long time. However, some week ago all of a sudden it wont play files without dropping FPS to around 3-5.

So basicly all movies are unwatchable.

Things ive tried:
  • Watching in other programs like VLC, which works.
  • Moving files from External Harddrive to the computer where XBMC is installed, which doesnt help.
  • New version of my graphics drivers, doesnt help.
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling 10,1 Dharma and now ive also tried the Eden Beta 3, which doesnt help either (actually it freezes the whole computer after some time trying)

Ive uploaded a utube video of how it looks. The video is, part from the fps drop set to 30 FPS in FRAPS, but straight after starting the video it drops to below 5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94gV-YpmQ...e=youtu.be

Ive kind of run out of ideas of what the problem is. I cant remember that ive changed anything before this problem started so I have no clue of what it is.

Enable debug logging from System settings, System, Debugging, and restart XBMC then wait a minute or two for all the startup tasks to finish. Play a video for a minute or so, then stop the video and close XBMC.

Open the debug log by pressing Windows-R and in the Run dialog type:

"%appdata%\xbmc\xbmc.log"

(including the quotes). Click OK and the log should open in Notepad. Copy and paste the log into http://pastebin.com/ and post the link it gives you here.

There are obvious errors in the log, but it isn't clear what's causing them. I recall someone posting hereabouts that enabling DTS in the settings when the receiver isn't DTS compatible can cause this sort of problem. Has anything changed in the video/audio settings? It would be worth going through the settings and having a fiddle.

Is audio playback affected? There are thousands of messages related to directsound in the log.

Audio isnt playing at all since the movie is stuttering so hard. Usually when the wrong audio is selected in menus, XBMC tells u it fails to initialize it.

It might also be cause I this time played it up on my computer and not via TV. Since the result is the same.

My receiver has all audio codecs so that shouldnt be a problem as well, and havent been in the past.

I will try some more later on.

Try plugging in a pair of headphones. This may seem an odd suggestion, but Windows will disable the audio output device if nothing is plugged in and this can upset XBMC.

New Debug Log when properly connected to TV and Receiver (HDMI)

Still no sound and still the same FPSdrop.

I tried both with Directsound option and Amd HDMI sound option.

Both give the same result.

Can you post an Eden b3 log?

You tried both DirectSound and WASAPI?

I m having the same problem. Threads like these keep popping up and dying without a solution... OP: Have you been able to resolve your problem?

Could it be related to this bug ticket? http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/13200

Believe the problem is resolved in the nightlies (or will appear in the next day or so). If it is the same issue it was caused when the buffer reached 0 would cause the video to play at 4-6 fps until video was stopped and restarted.

@classicspam - Yes! That is exactly what I am experiencing. Glad to hear it will be resolved soon!

@sialivi - I'm not sure if that bug ticket is related to my experience specifically, as I don't have audio set to WASAPI.

I'm also experiencing this issue when playing high bit-rate DTS-MA/HD content ( 20+gb). everything else in my collection (13GB=> or so) is fine.

I'm running 7/20 nightly.. I will post a log when I get home today. Without flaming can someone point me to a lightweight app used for listing audio video codecs in a MKV. I will also include this to help with debugging.

Many thanks in advance.

Looks like the issue is only with Bluray's in a standard BDMV folder. I'll move this to a new thread.
