XBMC Scans for new content before network is connected
#1
Confused
My home theatre pc boots straight in to XBMC, It does it at such a super awesomely fast rate. Where’s the problem you ask? Well its ready loaded and trying to run the "scan for new content" well before my network card ready, NIC lags by about 10sec.
I get the message “Failed to connect to the content server” or something like that!
I wait 10 sec until I see the network icon then I can rescan with no worries.

Anyone knows a fix. Or is it a matter of me getting a faster NIC?
I realy don’t want to disable the scan on boot, I just want XBMC to wait till there’s a network.

I used a program called "Startup Delayer " a while ago that worked just fine.

I know you can alter registry entires to get Services to delay their startup, so I assume it's also possible to do it for startup applications, too....

Start XBMC with the parameter -d 10 (or other amount). It will wait 10 seconds before starting up.

you could try to assign a static IP to the NIC, maybe it'll come up faster then.

@ f.krueger - out of interest, how are you managing to boot up the xbmc so fast? I have win7 ultimate and even with xbmc as a shell, it takes around 40-60 seconds or more sometimes. Huh
