Duplicates in library from ripped DVD's
#1
Sad
Hi everyone...
I've been having this issue on and off for a while now, and I've done some searching but haven't come across anything I was able to make use of. I have my media stored on a WHS share, with multiple computers accessing it using a MySQL database on another server. I have issues every so often where something is picking up every separate vob file in the video_ts folder as a separate entry (my structure is //Jeeves/Videos/movies/<title>/VIDEO_TS/)...it is also happenening for ripped blu-ray (//Jeeves/Vidoes/movies/<title>/BDMV/STREAM/) where it is pulling every separate m2ts file.

Interesting, for the bluray files, it likes to title them "Streamers," while the DVD's all get titled "Videodrome." Any help as to how to get it to stop scraping based on filename and not by folder name for those? For some DVD's, it works just fine...others, not so much.

...and to point out why it's a pain to delete them manually (or do anything), I have 52 entries called "Videodrome," 30 entries for "The Lovely Bones", and 34 entries called "Streamers" (and a smattering of others that are messed up as well).

The reason this is happening is because for whatever reason, XBMC isn't stacking down the VIDEO_TS/BDMV files.

What is the _EXACT_ filestructure of those folders where this happens.

Cheers,
Jonathan

For The Lovely Bones...(scraped correctly, but shows up multiple times)
\\JEEVES\Videos\DVD\FullDisc\The Lovely Bones (2009)\VIDEO_TS

For Over the Hedge...(scraped incorrectly as Videodrome)
\\JEEVES\Videos\Movies for Gabe\Over The Hedge (2006)\VIDEO_TS

9...(scraped incorrectly as Streamers)
\\JEEVES\Videos\DVD\FullDisc\9 (2009)\BDMV

There are quite a few other videos in the same folders using dvd or bluray structures that do seem to be getting scanned, scraped, and added correctly.

I'm using Eden Beta 3.

I'm having same problem also with Videodrome and an Italian movie called Videocracy (correct spelling)

File structure

HP N54L server with 6GB Memory and 10TB storage
Freenas server

There's a setting when you "edit source" of the movies folder that's called:

"Movies are in separate folders that match the movie title"

My theory is that XBMC is picking up the VIDEO_TS ripped dvd folder, and deciding that VIDEO_TS is a movie name, and that the nearest match to that is Videodrome. So I'm thinking that either

1. Unchecking the "Movies are in separate folders that match the movie title",box, and/or
2. Moving the content of VIDEO_TS one folder up, and then deleting the VIDEO_TS folder

Working on this now...

Well, I'm not whether it was 1, 2, or 1 and 2 (above), but my problem is now fixed. No more videodrome! I suspect it's #2 - the VIDEO_TS folder finding the closest match in the movie db as "Videodrome".

XBMC won't use VIDEO_TS as a search term except in the case where the VIDEO_TS folders do not stack down, or where you've managed to set content on it directly whilst stacking was disabled. The former occurs when the VIDEO_TS folder is invalid (eg no VIDEO_TS.IFO file).

Hmmm, yes, so where is XBMC "assuming" Videodrome from, many times over? I'm thinking now it's .VOB files? Thx btw. :-)

If there is no VIDEO_TS.IFO file, is that situation recoverable? Perhaps combine .vob files into a single file (.iso?) and rename to the name of the movie?
Reply

You can't get an ISO back, no. You could probably merge the .vob files into a single .mpg file though.

I found at least one situation that causes this problem.

When I did the original scraper scan XBMC found most of my files, but for some I had to switch scrapers from the default MovieDB.org to the "Universal Scraper". When I chose to "Change Content" and changed the scraper, the default settings for a "folder" (which my ripped DVD's are) is to select "scan recursively". This adds your DVD folder as a "top-level" folder for scanning for new files.

In fact if you export your library, you will see a "paths" section at the bottom of videodb.xml and every file for which I did "Change Content" is here.

Your options are to go back and "Change Content" again for those folders and remove the "Scan Recursively" option.

OR.....

1) Export your library as a "single file" (import & export are found under System -> Settings -> Video -> Library)

2) Make a complete copy of the export directory (keep the original for now, so you can go back if you screw up)

3) Edit the videodb.xml in the copied export directory so those DVD folders are no longer considered "top-level" paths
NOTE: You may also try to manually remove the dozens of "Videodrome" and "Vitus" records that may have been added to your library in this step

The "path" section looks like this:

Code:
<paths>
        <path>
            <url>afp://appletv:[email protected]/DVD VIDEO/COLLECTION/</url>
            <scanrecursive>2147483647</scanrecursive>
            <usefoldernames>false</usefoldernames>
            <content>movies</content>
            <scraperpath>metadata.themoviedb.org</scraperpath>
        </path>
        <path>
            <url>afp://appletv:[email protected]/DVD VIDEO/COLLECTION/MOVIES/</url>
            <scanrecursive>2147483646</scanrecursive>
            <usefoldernames>false</usefoldernames>
            <content>movies</content>
            <scraperpath>metadata.themoviedb.org</scraperpath>
        </path>
    </paths>

4) Remove the source from Videos and agree to remove all content from your library that comes from that source

5) Re-add the source to Videos (with no scraper set just yet)

6) Import your modified export by choosing the directory that contains the videodb.xml

This is what I did on my Apple-TV XBMC and seemed to fix things.

I have just tried removing and rescanning my DVDs folder from sources, applying only option #1 of your two. I has resulted in my DVD entries appearing once only, it also doesn't seem to have adversely affected my other, non DVD based movie entries. I'm seeing this as a solution, for now at least as I haven't checked to see if everything is there.
