[3D] Anaglyph play back of 3D material
#1
Lightbulb
Hi,

I know it's more a gadget than a must have Wink but what about a video settings option to play back 3D material - which is nothing else than a video with two pictures side-by-side or top-bottom per frame - as anaglyph video ?

I read that the VLC project has such a filter now:

http://www.videolan.org/developers/vlc/NEWS

If I remember rightly, VLC and XBMC use ffmpeg as their playback library, so maybe it's not that effort to integrate ... could be tested for example with ASTRA 3D Demo channel ..

Could be real fun - simply enter the magic word "anaglyph" into youtube search and you'll find a lot of movie trailes converted to anaglyph ..

you can use Bino as an external player on Windows / Linux or Mac.

Its not ideal, but it works if you really want to use it.

It will allow all different outputs

Code:

bino:     red-cyan-monochrome      Red/cyan anaglyph, monochrome method.

Ah, sounds good .. but it would be more generic to have an XBMC video setting/option for that, so you can watch LiveTV, Bluray or streaming video and so on without changing the player .. lately the video sources are all equal and could be handled by XBMC together ..

Oh, I completely agree but there seems to be little to no interest in adding native 3D support in this way (it will play SBS / O/U fine etc..)

I used Bino for a while, launching it automatically from xbmc using playercorefactory.xml but it became to much of a pain in the backside, so I just boot into windows now when I watch 3D dtuff.

How do you play the 3D stuff with Windows? You also need an external player, don't you?

Yeah sorry, I just meant in general.

Because I don't have a quadro card, I need to boot into windows, so I just use Nvidia 3D player, as I use XBMC under Linux, I only have the windows partition for 3D stuff.

Sorry, I should have explained that a little better.

Bino is nice, in that it allows for amber/blue, supposedly the more faithful at color reproduction (having tried it, it's definitely better than classic red/blue). Does Nvidia player allow for amber/blue?
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first (usually it's enough to follow instructions in the second post).

Its based on Stereoscopic player - http://3dtv.at/Products/Player/Features_en.aspx
So for red / cyan or other outputs I would look at that.

Nvidia's player is only really useful with the Nvidia 3d Vision kit, or a software emulated 3d vision dongle for DLP 3D etc...
