iOS Lossless music - transcoded or native?
#1
Hi all, been using XBMC (11 Eden: RC2) on the iPhone 4 for a few days. Thanks for doing such a great job! My main usage has been listening to lossless music files streamed over SMB. It works flawlessly, but leaves me with a question that i can't find an answer for either on the forum or FAQ's.

When lossless (.ape, .flac, etc.) is played does any transcoding take place? Does XBMC render the file into an apple friendly format or is it faithful to the source?

Hope someone can give me a definitive answer...

It's faithful to the codec. AFAIK we only use apple codecs in video and thats to get hw accel.
