I know that Netger has a GPL release page for this product and all others. It's located at:

It's worth noting that this device uses DirectFB instead of OpenGL/OpenGL ES. If you want to add support for this device, it'll require writing a DirectFB renderer for the user interface.

Any progress on this one? I picked up this streamer on sale recently thinking it could at least play videos from a networked HD and was shocked that it only does Neflix, vudu, youtube, etc.
It would be awesome to get xbmc running on this.

Unfortunately, I know nothing about hacking these things. Due to the relative obscurity of this thing compared with the massive number of Apple TVs, I decided to sell my Netgear on eBay and pick up an Apple TV (2nd edition). With the release of the Apple TV (3rd edition), the Apple TV 2's can be had for $50-$60 used (craigslist) and are well supported by the community.
