I'm a longtime user of XBMC since the old Xbox1 days and progressed up to x86 machines with XBMC Live 9.x and 10.x on Aopen MiniPC MP45s. I've been happily running the Dharma Live release (10.1) with minimal issues (the only real issue I have is the weather problem). Unfortunately, this 11.0 XBMCBuntu release has some pretty substantial issues:
1. Performance issues compared to 10.1
a. The new version just feels generally slower, particularly on bootup but it appears to better after a few minutes. There are some weird ‘stalling’ issues in the UI that didn’t exist in previously versions, seemingly when doing library scans for new content, but this stalling didn’t exist in previous versions.
2. Resume from standby doesn't work using MCE remote.
a.Apparently this is a known issue in the Ubuntu 11.10 kernel
1.Attempted manual fixed by adding the below to the rc.local file but this did not resolve the issue.
a .echo USB0 > /proc/acpi/wakeup
b .echo USB2 > /proc/acpi/wakeup
c. echo enabled > /sys/bus/usb/devices/7-1/power/wakeup
3. The ‘Power buttons’ do not work in the XBMC UI or the XBMCUnbtu UI
a.If you press he power button in the XBMC UI and select ‘power off’ or ‘reboot’, the machine just exits to the XBMCBuntu login page.
b. Pressing Shutdown or restart from the XBMCbuntu UI just sends you back to the XBMCbuntu login screen. (Possibly related to above problem?)
4. The Confluence skin Library media views have been modified.
a.The 'Media Info' and 'Media Info 2' views are ugly compared to the 10.1 Confluence views. Though not a bug, I fail to understand the logic behind modifying the Media 2 view in particular to the current 11.0 view which is vastly inferior to the previous version.
5. Weather - when resuming from standby, the Weather temperatures are way off.
a. (i.e.: if temp should be 70 degrees, it shows as 320 degrees but the amount this is off appears to be completely random) manually refreshing seems to resolve the issue.
Overall, the improvements are great but the #2 and #3 issue in particular will prevent me from moving to this new version as I require the XBMC system to operate as an appliance with the sole input device being the MCE remote and with these issue sin place, that simply isn't possible.
