Linux Noisy XBMC
#1
Hi all,
I recently switched my Windows 7 install with Media Browser to XBMCbuntu Eden. The response times of the computer have gone way up and the boot time is now beyond excellent, but there is one problem. The HTPC used to run very silently under Windows 7, but under the new Ubuntu core the fans start speeding up after about twenty to thirty minutes. So something, probably the CPU, is running to hot. Is there a way to fix this in Linux? It might be apples and oranges, but if Windows can keep the PC quiet, Linux should be able to do as well. Any help is much appreciated.
Cheers,
Hagbard

Try to enable dirty regions (wiki)

Hagbard_C,

I would be interested to hear if this really makes a difference.

Thanks for the tip. I tried it yesterday but it does not seem to do much. After about twenty-thirty minutes the processors seem to get hot and the fans have to work overtime.

Try disabling RSS feeds. That in combination with dirty regions should bring the CPU usage to a minimum.
