I think the lid might be upside down. The screw holes are countersunk so the screws should not stick up like that and you should see the brushed metal finish, not a flat finish. It's hard to tell from the picture but it looks that way to me.

Hope you did not scratch the nice side.... Tongue that would bum me out....

Alright, these forums convinced me to build my own HTPC from scratch, and I was thinking about copying your build here jangjong. Are the only things missing from your setup a good remote and a hard drive for media storage? Do you have recommendations for the remote? And if I don't want to set up a raid server, or NAS, or whatever, will USB 3 hard-drives suffice, or do you have alternate recommendations?

Yea.. XBMC forum tends to do that to you Wink

Anyway, yes you're correct. My setup is missing a remote and some kind of media storage.

You can look at this post by eskro: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=117372 for more information on remote.. I personally like flirc + harmony setup explained in this post. That's what i have for my gf's setup. You can also look at this post: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=132960 for some idea

And about the media storage.. What kind of media files you have? If they're just MKV's, i think USB 3.0 HDD fine. but if you have a lot of videos.. NAS/unRAID server would be a way to go.

Thanks for the links jangjong. So it looks like the Harmony 300 remote and the Rosewill dongle that comes with this remote (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6880101008) work together to allow a programable remote which can be used to turn the HTPC on from a completely off state, and still works with XMBC. Is that right?

As for the media storage, my files are limited to just mp3s at the moment, but I'd like to back up some DVDs and such. Are there some intro threads on NAS/unRAID servers? I'd like to get an idea for how much that costs.

It seems so.. but I don't use that combo, so I can't give you a straight up answer if it'll work or not. Since my build's MB and beerz's build's MB are the same board, I would think it will work as you described.

About NAS/unRAID, You can find some useful info from the sticky.
Here's a great write up from eskro for unRAID builds: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=104489
Some of builds are outdated, but this will give you a rough estimate of what you would like to do if you decide to go with unRAID.

Here's a post from jamesk9 about setting unRAID if you would like to give unRAID a try: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...ght=unraid

People in this forum love unRAID including myself. It works out perfectly. You can also look at my build as well, I was able to build one under $100 (HDD cost not included).

There are other options for NAS.. you can buy NAS boxes from Amazon or there's a software called 'flexraid' that's similar to unRAID. It really depends on your needs.

Wow, lots of nice links there; thank you very much. I'll probably set up an unRAID at some point, but I'm trying to get the HTPC up and running for as cheap as possible.

I noticed that the company you linked to buy the Realan E-I5 case is currently sold out of the black cases. You don't happen to know where else they can be purchased from, do you? Google searches mostly lead to alibaba.com, and it's unclear if they sell individual units to consumers.

I think the website that I liked to buy the E-I5 is the only one that actually sells them in the U.S... and the owner actually is an active member of this xbmc forum lol

His username is dougiefresh so you may want to ask him about the availability if you really want to go with E-I5.

but to answer your question.. no i don't really know where else you can get these from. sorry

I think you can log in their official website to ask if they would like to sell individual units or some others you want to know. Here you can get some contact information. http://www.minicase.net/contact.html

jangjong-
Curious how much room you have between the cooler and the SSD.
I'm also curious if this fan was ever considered:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...U%20Cooler
It's only 3 mm bigger than the one you used.

I'm also not convinced it would fit with your MB.

I still love the E-I5, but I want to make sure fan speeds and noise are under control.
This HTPC will be within 3 feet of where the family sits and I really don't want to hear the sound of a fan.
