Win Script failed on every add on
#1
I'm fairly new to XBMC and I was having fun on it with my apple TV but when I tried to install it on my pc running vista it has a script failed, no matter what I try to click on. Even the weather add on from the start up.

If anyone can have a look at my debug log and try and help it would be much appreciated:

Appears you have the Python modules not loading bug. I've seen this before, but I don't know if there is an answer to it. It is as if the python modules did not install correctly and XBMC thinks they are missing.

Can you check your XBMC install folder for the following:
Code:
\system\python\Lib\os.py

That's the problem I've seen in a couple of forums but it seems that it's a rare one.

That file is installed. Is it possible to install/reinstall the python modules separately?

No, but maybe you can do a test for me. I don't know if this will matter but it might be worth a shot.

Remove XBMC. Then re-install to a non-standard location. For example if you have another drive such as D:, install XBMC in D:\XBMC. Then modify the shortcut to run XBMC by adding -p to the target box :

Here is mine as an example.
Code:
D:\HTPC\Xbmc\XBMC.exe -p
Start XBMC with that shortcut. It will run XBMC in portable mode storing your userdata information in a portable_data folder within the XBMC installed folder.

That didn't work unfortunately.

Would it help if I post the contents of the os.py file? I noticed some errors in there but I'm not sure how relevant they are to this problem.

I would not think so, but at this point I guess it could not hurt. Post it to pastebin and link here.

It would be awesome if someone can figure this one out because there doesn't seem to be an answer on any XBMC forum as of yet

No there hasn't been a solution yet. I need to comb thru the threads and look for a common thread. But that could take a lot of time, which I am short on these days.

That file is exactly like the one in my install that works.

Is there some sort of weird permissions issue going on? Are you running Vista with UAC on? Would right clicking XBMC.exe and selecting run as Administrator make any difference?

I've tried disabling UAC and running as admin but still nothing.

If I discover anything that helps I'll post it here.

I managed to get XBMC working on my PC but it may be quite a bit of hassle for some who may have the same problem.

All I did was upgrade my OS to Windows 7 and for some reason it works now. Maybe there was some sort of corruption in one of my drives that prevented python from installing properly.

I noticed your log said Vista. I wonder if the other users with this issue have the same OS.

Welcome to the XBMC forums.

That add-on has been marked as "Broken" by the author a while back and has not been fixed due to site changes by the content provider; therefore, you cannot add it to XBMC. See this thread specifically devoted to that add-on: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=45132 (especially the 4/10/2012 updated comment in the first post).

As an alternative, you can try BlueCop's Free Cable - US station aggregator add-on. It includes National Geographic and Nat Geo Wild, but be forewarned that due to the content-provider changes mentioned above, many of the shows will not play. However, you can at least install this add-on and take your chances as far as which shows will or will not play.
