Not sure to be honest, especially as its only not working for tv episodes. You could look in the xbmc log; it should log the requests for the art so there maybe some helpful info there

Thanks. I was thinking about adding an option to easily close the app from every screen. You need to go to the main activity now to close the app from the menu. I find this a bit annoying combined with the status bar now playing notifications. I want the option enabled, but don't want to have to go to main activity menu to disable the notifications after opening the app.

Is this fork the new official base for the app, since the original one is no longer being maintained?

It worked for me with an m3u file but not had a chance to try with just lists of mp3s (or with samba as i use nfs).


Bram77, this isn't an official fork in any sense; i just needed to get things working for me when i got my raspberry pi and, such is the nature of open source, decided to share what I've done for others. However, the http api support could be removed at any time from the main xbmc branch at which point the official app will become useless

Maybe my playlst is just wrong.

It works with web radio playlist and it shows playing and seconds so its a bit wierd.

Tom: I took a look at the code a while ago and did find several json references and libraries. I assumed the remote can work with both api's! That's incorrect? In that case I might be interested in writing a remote from scratch.

Yeh it sets which API to use based on the xbmc version but the jsonrpc code in the official repo doesn't actually get used and is very out of date. My version still has that check in to work out whether to use http api or not but i may have broken some of the http api functions; i haven't tested that at all though as http api will be removed in Frodo and jsonrpc has existed in xbmc for the past few releases. (although i reckon anything i have broke there can be easily fixed)


shaggys, it's just standard m3u format as saved by winamp but the playlist is on the server with the music so its absolute paths to the files rather than shared folders, eg

Its gotta be a android thing.

* Created a playlist from within XBMC with just 10 mp3's from an artist.
* Play the playlist from xbmc and NowPlaying works on the Android App -

* Play the SAME playlist from the Android App and NowPlaying do not show any information. Not playing,no artist, no time nothing. If I press the little square in the android app I do see the list of songs in the playlist.Note that it DOES play the playlist. It just do not show that it is playing! Wierd huh

Tom, thank you for continuing the development of this perfect remote!

I just updated to your version 10.2 and started downloading the covers after purging the cache. What I noticed was that the video playback was stuttering while downloading the covers.
That problem wasn't there in the previous version, neither in the "official" version of the app.

It could be me and my limited experience with android development but... In my eyes the code of the app is very unclear, bloated and to complicated. I've started developing a new client library to make it easier to develop xbmc android apps. It won't support the old http api. It will be a jsonrpc and EventServer client. At this moment I'm only focussing on the latest version of the api fot now. I'll add backwards compatibility later on. My goal is to wrie a solid and easily maintainable open souce client library.
Basic async http communication is already functioning. I'm in the process of making all available api methods easily accessible.

While Official Remote code is quite complicated it's also quite powerful.

There's so many way and different needs about such a library so it can be implemented in a full application that I'm really not sure such a library would be of much use for most remote writers.
