Win Unable to get DTS working
#1
Hi

I have a HP dm1-4016au notebook which I am connecting the HDMI cable to my Samsung TV then connecting the TV via optical to my Marantz amp. The amp only recognises stereo coming through. My ATV2 correctly sends through 5.1. To troublshoot I install XBMCbuntu which worked 1st go!.
The laptop in an AMD E300 proc and an AMD Radeon HD 6310 Graphics. I have used the latest drivers 12.4, beta 12.6 and previous 12.3 to no avail.

I am lost and spent too many hours and feel I am going around in circles. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

*I have never posted before...if anyone requires further info on my setup please advise....thx

Limited knowledge, but unless your TV can natively pass DTS to your receiver (which few can) then 2 channel is the best your likely to get, with this set-up. A check of your TV specs will tell you if its possible - what TV are you using?

What you can do is set-up your receiver to convert the 2 channel feed to 'pseudo' surround using one of the DSP modes on it.

If you can the best connection would be

laptop - HDMI - receiver - HDMI - Television

though I am assuming that you connect in the way you describe because of a lack of HDMI inputs?

As described above, I used XBMCBUNTU on the same laptop it worked, It is connected in this way as I do not have a HDMI port on my AMPSad

At least provide the information asked, what is the TV model, because unless it can pass DTS I don't see how it could work in xbmc at all - irrespective of version used (Though I have no experience of linux distro at all). AFAIK all versions use the same basic audio engines. However I am happy for someone with more knowledge to prove me wrong.

Perhaps time to provide a debug log - see here http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=42708, this is more likely to get the attention of the devs, or at least someone with more knowledge than I.

Well that is something I didnt suspect, as the same laptop with xbmcbuntu was showing up as 5.1 on my amp, i never bothered checking the TV manual as I assumed is passed through 5.1. Well according to the manual it doesnt. TV model is Samsung ua55c900. So that sort of answers my question. A stranger one is why on earth does it appear to work correctly with xbmcbuntu and my ATV2?

log file if anyone is still interested....not sure if i should bother pursuing this any further though...Thanks for the assistance so far
