Is there any appreciable difference between the HD6450 and GT430?

I am replacing my GT430 in my HTPC because the fan crapped out and also because it does not output as clear of a picture as my integrated Radeon graphics.

I am curious if there is any downside or difference with the AMD Radeon 6450 versus the Nvidia GT430.

I have an Athlon X2 250 processor which can handle 1080p on its own so I really just need the card for 3D.

Is one better suited for 3D than the other? Does one support more features than the other? I ask because I can get a fanless Asus 6450 for $37 and an Asus fan-cooled GT430 for $50. I'd rather go fanless and save money, but I want to make sure I am shooting myself in the foot by doing it.

I'm recomending this "MSI R6570-MD1G/LP Radeon HD 6570 1GB" instead......if your case have good ventilation, you can go for this "HIS Silence H657HJ1G Radeon HD 6570 1GB"........here is a comparision- GeForce GT 430 vs Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB and Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB vs Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB.......AMD Radeon HD 6670 1GB & HD 6570 512MB Review
>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

I found an HIS passively cooled 6570 2GB at Microcenter for $40 after rebate, so I went ahead with your recommendation. Are there any features of this GPU that make it better for XBMC other than the fact that its faster?

Thanks for the help

FYI, that HIS card's memory clock is only at 1000MHz, as opposed to the ~1334MHz of the MSI and that other HIS model bluray linked above. Benchmarks seem to result in lower performance than the Geforce GT 430.

Since I have that card as well, I would be very curious as to what benchmarks you're getting out of it. Probably the most straightforward one is the Passmark performance test, which can be downloaded here for free: http://www.passmark.com/products/pt.htm.

As long as it fulfill your playback needs, I wouldn't worry too much about which card is better......here are some comparisons of several brands of HD6570 and GT430- Compare......

In general, HD6570 is better than than GT430......with that said- if the price is right, I don't mind buying another GT430 for HTPC either......

Yeah, I don't know why I am getting caught up in benchmarks and such. I should just be paying attention to operating temperatures, noise production, and actual related performance, all of which seem to be fine as of now.
