Audio but not video on XBMCBUNTU upgraded
#1
Hi,

i have been having problems con random xbmc crash since like 1 month ago so finnally yesterday i tried to make a full update, do-release-upgrade. And yes.. now that i have been all day reading threads i know its a bad idea.

I first have problems of HTPC not booting, grub problem, no partition there. Ok.. i searched a bit, finally fixed it using ubuntu live cd and following instructions from: http://askubuntu.com/questions/125428/gr...lling-1204

Then problem was i had the window saying i need accelerated graphics... ok.. i searched again.. finally found a way to reinstall nvidia drivers from some forums: http://askubuntu.com/questions/37590/nvi...e-terminal and http://www.ubuntu-guia.com/2010/04/insta...ia-en.html and another one saying how to download driver and install. Cant remember witch one worked, but i have it working now.

Also while doing it i had a problem of htpc not resolving dns, fixed it adding Google's DNS directly to resolvconf.

Then i had a problem with samba.. messed a bit cause the problem was actually that yesterday I switched off my external HDs so.. it wasnt really a problem.

Next problem was with audio.. no way to take audio out on HDMI, finally after reading a bit more i found that the problem was that the hdmi was muted (on alsamixer).

But now.. i have a problem i cant find how to solve it.

My equipment:

Foxconn NT330i (nvidia ion2, atom 330) with 2gb ram and XBMCBuntu installed on SDHC 16gb (and then upgraded with do-release-upgrade)

Problem is with some videos (not all) where audio works but i get no video, not blank screen, it tries to open it and go back to skin with audio working in background.

This may be a silly question, but have you tried to perform a fresh install and just fix your original problem?

I'm having a similiar issue to your original problem and have started this thread.

Perhaps using the debugging functionality on your original issue will yield a simpler solution.

I checked forum for the initial problem and didn't found anything that worked, so i went to release-upgrade. I wanna try to get this work before just format and reinstall from zero (it worked ok for months, so if i install from zero and dont do any apt-get update it should work. But if i can make this work ill have a more recent linux so.. i'll try some days to fix it before reinstalling.
