- XMBC 11.0 Eden
- Mac Mini 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
- Mac OSX 10.6.8
- Audio Digital Optical Out to 5.1 Receiver
The simplest way to describe this problem, is that the audio in XBMC is experiencing something referred to in music production as "sidechain compression."
What this means is, if I'm playing a song (be it mp3, or music video file, whatever), whenever there is some strong BASS (a kick, or deep bass line, etc), the mid and treble audio gets sucked out dramatically. It sounds very weird.
The vocals/instruments might be very loud, and then as soon as the bass hits, they get quiet and uneven, and then return once the bass is done.
This does not seem to happen when playing audio through different software on this machine, it seems to be an XBMC issue.
