Unpack XBMC installation
#1
Hello,

I like to extract the Xbmc installation without installing it into the local windows to move the copy on a server and run there in portable mode. Anyway how to run the installer to get all the files in correct folders ?
When I unpack the archive with 7zip I get the content but not the correct folder layout

Thx

Hi,

I'm using XBMC in portable mode (Launching XBMC.exe with the -p option).

I download and update from http://xbmc.shadowprojects.net/dx/ using XBMCUpdate. Sometimes, when this website doesn't have the latest version I went to nightlies and download the latest EXE version. I usually install it, copy to my folder and remove it.

Hope this helps.

Hi again,

Probably you can't get the "official beta 2" using the ZIP files but you can be very near of it.

For example, if you go to http://mirrors.xbmc.org/releases/win32/ you can see that it is from 02-Dec-2012 10:16.

For nightlies at http://mirrors.xbmc.org/nightlies/win32/ you have 1, 3 and 5 Dec files.
But at the ZIP site you have 1, 4 and 6 Dec.

If you want the official, download the EXE file and do this:

- Setup it as normally, don't run XBMC at the end (like C:\Program Files\XBMC)
- Copy all the files to another location (like D:\SOFT\PORTABLE\XBMC)
- Uninstall XBMC from Control Panel (selecting removing all files and the profile under C:\Users\...)
- Open CMD and go to your copy
- Execute XMBC -p for using it in portable mode (it will create a portable_data folder there)

Hope this helps.
