I'm just building an HTPC with Linux (xbmc und mythtv) and have read many postings but can't really decide between i3-3225 or A10-5700. The system is used for recoding and watching the recorded tv. There should be no additional graphic card.

The motherboard for both systems is similar. The needed energy and the price is similar.

Both CPUs are powerful enogh I think. The case is big (HTPC 2008-V).

Which one of the CPUs should I choose and why?

For Linux, there is better driver support for Intel than for AMD. I would go with the i3-3225.

Since you are planning to use Linux your only choice is the i3-3225. Because, of the lack of drivers available for ADM chips to run Linux.

I know that Intel has better open source drivers but I didn't care about the driver is open source or propreatary. But if there is no working driver for linux it is really unsusable.
