Linux I have Windows MC, and want to use XBMC to link to it, will it work ?

Hi all,

thinking about taking the plunge and installing Linux version of XBMC. I currently have a number of PC's around the house all running Win7/8 but am looking for something that can simply play movies stored on my main Windows MC.

Will XBMC do this well ? and is it fairly easy to setup ? I do not have a lot of Linux experience.

Also, can XBMC play Windows MC Recorded TV ?

thanks in advance.

Sure it can. Just turn on file sharing from Windows and specified your media folder. Let xbmc scan the samba source and you good to go. Xbmc also plays recorded files in wtv format just fine.

Thanks for that.

Am I right in saying that if I download OpenElec, and run the create_installstick.bat it will give me a bootable usb that I can use to 1) wipe windows (format) and 2) install linux and xbmc ?

Sorry, a newbie here ....
