Giada i53 vs Intel NUC
#1
Hey all,
Since my old media PC (a very old Dell tower) died on NYE, I went hunting for a replacement. I considered the Intel NUC, a custom build and the Giada i53.
I ended up ordering the Giada since I thought the nuc was a bit too limited - usb ports, no built in wifi, and the reports of the ssd+wifi causing heating issues.
The NUC is nice but really it' main purpose is digital signage/kiosks. It's not really a consumer targeted product.

It hasn't arrived yet but I will let you all know how it goes. Check here for the specs: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.asp...6856176041

I know the HD is not ideal but I will eventually replace with SSD.
I also chose this over custom for the wattage, noise levels and the price is about the same for a quality build. It will host all my media right now (2x 3tb USB hd's) and act as a downloader so it will be on 24x7.
This was the custom build I was considering:

What do you guys think?

I'm interested in your test results also, I was looking at this unit on Newegg for my HTPC also! How well it streams Netflix and Hulu.

What about the Giada Slim i33. Much cheaper, and still good specs. Any thoughts?
