Win Intel D2700DC witch win XP and XBMC
#1
Hello.

I want to ask You a question. I’m planning to change MB in my miniPC, and I want to use it as a multimedia center with a XBMC. I’m planning to run it under Win XP.
My questions:
1. Is this setup I strong enough to run with XP and XBMC on FullHD ?
2. This motherboard has a HDMI port and Optical for audio, if I don’t have any home cinema is it possible to transfer the video and audio to TV only with using a HDMI ?
3. Additionally this machine, 24/7 is a torr server.

If this MB isn’t strong enough pleas suggest me a low power alternative.

Best regards
Kamil

PS. Sorry for my english.

1. I would say no, in Windows XP XBMC would have to resort to software decoding because in Windows XBMC uses DXVA2 for hardware acceleration which is only available in Vista and up.

2. yes

If you want hardware acceleration and want to stick with Windows you will want to switch to Windows 7 or 8. If you want to stick with XP in particular you will probably want an core i3 or up to do the decoding in software.

particleman, thanks for Your answer.
If I understand it right, I could use Win 7 and this will work fine, hardware will be enough?
Does GMS 3650 support DXVA2 or this is relevant only in OS?

the grafics card on the d2700 is not well supported under windows or linux.

i would suggest looking at the new nm70 boards instead.

Any of MB with NM70 are not availble in my country.
I ask Gigabyte about GA-C847N-D. Mayby it is already shiped to Poland and in a few days it will be availble Smile

With the NM70 you run into the ffmpeg dxva2 macroblocking issue in Windows though. You could get around it but it would require either using Linux/Openelec or using dsplayer in Windows. But if you want to stick with Windows and want the easiest setup with the least amount of configuration required (configuring dsplayer isn't hard, but it doesn't get official builds from the main branch, and requires a bit more configuration), something like with an AMD E350/450 might be the way to go.

The D2700 may or may not work with hardware acceleration in Windows 7 and XBMC. I have seen reviews where they got DXVA2 working, but they were not using XBMC, so I can't say whether it is or isn't affected by the macroblocking bug in xbmc windows.

b0ssman, thanks for Your help Smile
They have a planned delivery of this MB on January 15th.

There is only a question about power consumption and noise.
Does anyone have check this already?
